Let’s talk about something real for a minute. As an aesthetician, I’m all about helping you look your best — whether it’s sculpting your brows or perfecting your cheekbones with dermal fillers. But here’s the thing: we can spend hours, money, and energy making sure we look flawless, but what about feeling flawless? Why is it that we’ll drop thousands on hair extensions, snatch our wigs to perfection, or spend hours shaping the perfect arch on our brows — but then go home, lay down, and cry ourselves to sleep because we feel emotionally drained or out of balance?
Have you ever lost the plot on the self check out machine while paying for your groceries? Or snapped at your partner over something so small, but deep down, you knew it wasn’t about the situation — it was the stress you’ve been carrying around? The whole time you looked like an absolute Doll!!!
The real question here is “who wants to look like a doll, but functions like a dragon???? Furthermore who would hang out with a dragon?”
Here’s the truth — you can have the most perfect brows, the snatched jawline, and the glowiest skin, but none of it matters if your mind is in turmoil. You can’t Botox your way out of emotional baggage, and you can’t fill your way into inner peace. We’re all obsessed with external beauty, but we need to start investing in the beauty that comes from within.
Therapy: The Missing Link to Your Glow-Up
I get it, therapy can feel like this big, scary thing — something for people who are “falling apart.” But here’s the truth: therapy isn’t about fixing what’s broken, it’s about maintaining your mental health just like you maintain your beauty routine. You wouldn’t skip your brow appointments or neglect your skin, so why neglect your mind? Therapy is a safe space to unpack stress, trauma, or just the everyday stuff that’s weighing you down. Think of it as a mental “infill,” giving you the emotional support to keep your balance.
You can’t truly glow until you address the real issues. When your emotions are all over the place, the surface beauty just doesn’t stick, therapy helps you stay sharp, aligned, and ready to take on whatever comes your way.
Let’s Normalize Therapy Like We Do Beauty Treatments
We talk about our hair, our nails, our next holiday, and our new favorite lip gloss, but when was the last time you said, “I need a therapy session to unpack that”? Why is it so easy to book that brow appointment but harder to book time for your mental health? It’s time we start normalizing therapy, just like we normalize all those little beauty rituals that keep us looking right. You deserve to feel as good as you look.
Beauty Starts With Balance
When we’re mentally balanced, we show up as our best selves — no crazy emotional breakdowns, no snapping at people, no dragging around past hurts. Therapy isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity for a balanced life. So, let’s stop pretending it’s only for the “crazies.” It’s for the empowered, the strong, the ones who know that true beauty starts from within.

Our conditioning and upbringing as black wonen plays a significant role in why therapy isn’t considered as an option. We would rather mask, self medicate and use pray than to deal with the underlying factors.
